The IRS Fresh Start Program was created in 2011 to help taxpayers who are struggling to pay their taxes. If you are one of those people, then you may be wondering how to apply for the program. In this article, we will walk you through the steps that you need to take in order to get started. Keep in mind that the application process can be a little complex, so it is important to seek help from a qualified tax professional if you have any questions.

Put Your Personal Information Together

The first step is to gather all of the information that you will need to complete your application. This includes your Social Security number, income information, and a list of all of your assets and debts. You may also be asked to provide documentation supporting the information that you provide on your application.

Figure Out Your Monthly Payment

The next step is to calculate your monthly payment. This is the amount that you will need to pay each month in order to get caught up on your taxes. Keep in mind that your monthly payment may be different than the amount that you currently owe to the IRS.

Consult With a Tax Professional

The application process can be complex, so it is important to seek help from a qualified tax professional. They will be able to guide you through the process and make sure that everything goes smoothly. This is where we, Morris and Associates Tax Specialists come in. We have over 30 years of experience helping taxpayers get their taxes in order. Give us a call today and let us help you take advantage of the Fresh Start Program.

How To Submit The Application

Once you have gathered all of the information and consulted with a tax professional, it is time to submit your application. This can be done online or by mail. If you choose to apply online, be sure to have your Social Security number and income information handy.

To apply, you must fill out Form 433-A (OIC) Collection Information Statement for Wage Earners and Self-Employed Individuals (or 433-B (OIC) Collection Information Statement for Business), which the IRS requires.

If you choose to apply by mail, download the form from the IRS website and send it to the address listed on the form. Make sure to include all of the required documentation, such as proof of income and a list of your assets and debts.

It is important to note that you will not be able to apply for the Fresh Start Program if you are currently in bankruptcy or have an outstanding tax debt from a previous year. If you are not sure whether or not you qualify, please give us a call and we would be happy to help.
